AI Guidelines
Nyack School District Guidelines for Artificial Intelligence (AI)
At Nyack Public Schools, we embrace the responsible use of AI as a powerful tool to enhance learning and achieve our educational goals. We are dedicated to fostering a learning environment that promotes the ethical and responsible use of AI, adheres to regulations to protect student privacy, and is guided by our core competencies: Critical Thinking, Creativity, Collaboration, Communication, Compassion, Content Mastery, and Cultural Awareness.
- We leverage AI to support students in achieving their educational goals and to advance our District's objectives, including enhancing student learning, teacher effectiveness, and school operations. We remain committed to evaluating AI tools for biases and ethical concerns to ensure they equitably and effectively serve our diverse educational community.
- While using AI, we adhere to existing policies and regulations, including a commitment to racial equity. This includes alignment with Ed Law 2-d and other regulations to protect student privacy, ensure universal accessibility, and safeguard against harmful content. Before any third-party tools are introduced to students or that collect student Personal Identifiable Information (PII), they must have a comprehensive vetting process.
- We continue to educate and support our students to promote Al literacy in a developmentally appropriate way that fosters critical thinking and aligns with NYS standards. Students are encouraged to actively engage, provide feedback, and contribute to shaping the role of AI in their learning experience.
- We continue to educate and support staff about Al. The Nyack Public School District is committed to providing training to build professional capacity.
- We acknowledge the evolving landscape of AI and will continue to explore its opportunities while addressing its risks. Our focus is on leveraging AI's benefits in education and carefully evaluating when and how to use AI tools responsibly.
- We use AI to advance academic integrity, emphasizing honesty, trust, fairness, respect, and responsibility for both students and staff. This includes the proper citation of AI tools and sources to maintain transparency and accountability.
The Nyack School District Guidelines for Artificial Intelligence (AI) provide a foundational framework, while individual schools and departments may establish additional guidelines tailored to their specific needs.
