Department Overview

Nyack Public Schools and the Nyack Visual Art Department are dedicated to fostering an inclusive learning environment that supports, honors, and values all students and staff. We firmly believe that the voices, perspectives, experiences, skills, and participation of all students enhance the richness of our classroom experiences.

Our goal is to create a space where students of every background feel valued, heard, and represented within the learning environment, curriculum, and instructional strategies and materials. We are also committed to continuously improving our instructional practices to best serve all students

High School Visual Arts

The High School Visual Arts program offers students a wide range of opportunities to develop and refine their artistic skills through studio-based courses in drawing, painting, design, photography, and other media. Students are encouraged to develop personal style, strengthen technical ability, and build portfolios that reflect creative growth and expression. Advanced coursework supports college and career pathways in the arts, while fostering creativity, critical thinking, and visual literacy.

Middle School Visual Arts

The Middle School Visual Arts program provides students with opportunities to explore creativity, develop foundational artistic skills, and express ideas through a variety of media and techniques. Students build confidence in drawing, painting, design, and art production while learning about artistic elements, principles, and cultural influences. The program encourages experimentation and prepares students for continued study in the visual arts at the high school level.
