Elementary Summer Reading
Elementary Summer Reading Information, Suggestions & Links (Grades 1-5)
Dear Families and Students:
We encourage all students to read throughout the summer for enjoyment and continued proficiency. Studies have shown that children who read over the summer grow as readers, avoid the “summer slide” and build lifelong memories with their families. A suggested author list has been provided by your school librarians. These are suggested authors, you may read whatever books you choose at your reading level. This information is also available on your school’s and the public library’s websites. We also encourage you to attend one of the many free summer reading programs, craft programs and more at the public libraries.
It is advised that each student read for 20 minutes per day over the course of the summer. The reading log provided here can be used or you can use the ones provided by the public libraries’ Summer Reading Program.
